Local Churches
There a total of 12 churches in and around the city of Jackson. Some have been serving the community since the begning of this historical town. Below you will find important information about them.
St. Patrick Catholic ChurchDaniel Harter and his carpenters built this church on Church Street in downtown Jackson in 1868. In 1853, Armstead C. Brown sold the local Catholicshis former residence, which they had been using for church services and it sufficed until 1855 when a new church was built. The 1862 fire consumed that building and in 1868 the current church took its place. A new bell arrived in 1870 but in 1878, it was blown down along with the belfry and cross, which wasn't replaced until 1894. St. Patrick Catholic Church continues to house it's faithful to this day.

On April 4, 1853, Reverend Fish "claimed a lot of ground 120 feet square on 'Carrol Hill' on the North East side of the village of Jackson, Calaveras County, California..." There a church was built, then dedicated on July 17, 1853 by Brother Simonds. They raised $150, fully satisfying the demands for the building and placing it out of debt. Grace FellowshipGrace Fellowship held its first services on August 16, 1996 at the Pine Grove Town Hall. The church met at the Town hall for six months until the Seventh Day Adventist Church invited them to share their facilities in Sutter Creek, where they met for four years. They moved to the Jackson Cinemas for one year and then into the storefront in Jackson in September, 2003. We purchased twenty-three acres of land in 2000 and in November, 2006, we completed our new 23,000 square feet, multi-purpose building that houses our current ministry.

St. Katharine Drexel Parish is comprised of the Parish Center in Martell and six Catholic mission churches in Amador County. The six historic missions once made up three separate parishes but were united into one larger Catholic community in November 2011. The Parish Center in Martell was formerly known as the Amador Catholic Center. The Center is currently under reconstruction and will become a church and multi-purpose facility to support the social and spiritual needs of the Catholics in the parish. |
